Sample preparation

Semen collected for a morphological evaluation :

• Semen is added to a warmed tube containing 1ml of Buffered Formol Saline until the solution is just coloured.  Once added, gently turn  the solution until well mixed.
• For concentrated samples this may only be one or two drops.
• For more dilute samples 2-3 drops of semen should be added.
• For further advice regarding sample collection and handling, or to order sample tubes, please contact the laboratory.
• The sample tubes should be clearly labelled by writing on the tube – sample number, bull identification and date.
• Sample vials should be leak proof.
• Place in a sealed bag.  It is recommended to use absorbent material and bubble wrap to protect the samples regardless of method of dispatch.
